Just a friendly reminder that this Thursday, March 7th, is the Lowell Writer’s Group open mic at lala books, 189 Market St, Lowell, MA. We start at 6:30 p.m. and try to wrap things up a little before 8:00.
This month’s feature writer is, well, me. After I’m finished there will be time for others to read some of their own work. If you want to participate, please sign up when you arrive. But preparing for Thursday has led me to reflect on my experience with the Lowell Writer’s Group.
So being mindful that some folks can’t make it Thursday, and that I won’t have time to say this to each member individually, I beg your indulgence as I say it now.
This year represents a major milestone for me: it’s the 20th anniversary of starting an entirely new life as a poet. It’s been a remarkable road, and it’s led me to some amazing places. And now it’s led me to a group of some of the kindest, most supportive, and encouraging writers I’ve ever been fortunate to share time with. I’ve been in many writing groups, and with lots of people, but the Lowell Writer’s Group has proven to be exceptional.
I just wanted you all to know how important the group and all its members are to me, and to my life as a writer. When I came to Lowell, I believed my creative life was over, but you have all helped me gradually begin to reclaim it. And I shall never forget you for that.
Bless you all, and as I always say,
Keep writing.
